dearest all,
As of the beginning of June 2011, I am no longer posting to this blog. It will stand as a record of my time in Iceland, sure, but if you want something that is getting updated, head on over to the small blue cat.
best,

walkabout

dearest all,
i've been out walking for most of today, and i don't feel like i have much to say, but i'll do my best to keep it interesting.

when i wake up this morning, it is raining. having slanty windows in the roof makes it very clear that it is raining- like throwing marbles on a snare drum. i discover as i venture out of my room, that the rain has made all of the snow go away. reykjavik looks again different. how very interesting.
this is from when i first arrived
the sun is out, visibility is good.
notice the mountain?
no more snow, no more mountain
i fry a couple of eggs. they are a small sort with thick skin. pretty decent though. i need to get some black pepper. [among other things.]
the tower is landakotskirkja. it's a Catholic church.

i go on a long walk, nearly three hours, i imagine.
there is a computer shop out at the end of borgatun, i walk out there to buy an SD card reader. [so that i can upload some of these pictures.]
this is roughly the areas where i've been. the blue dot is home.
the red lines are where most shops are.
i've been a bit farther north and a bit farther west

i think that these socks are a bit coarse, because the soles of my feet feel weird when i get back. but now can upload a few more photos.
there is still a lot of walking to be done. but a few things that i notice today are: icelandic drivers are quite considerate of pedestrians.
there is black gravel instead of dirt usually.
i don't feel very tall here at all.
the graffiti doesn't feel very icelandic to me, but the painting of some buildings borders on street art and is really quite nice. i'll have to get some photos
the weather seems pretty dynamic.
or maybe it is just being fickle right now. i guess time will tell on that one.
upcoming posts on architecture and painting of it, food and eating, rocks, the lighthouse... not really sure, anything you are particularly curious about?

  3. i walked again very far today. i suppose that i am writing about that currently, so i won't ruin the surprise. but yes, i have been walking quite a lot lately. it is a good place to walk. the average icelandic driver is very considerate. if i showed an updated map it would be a bit expanded, i think.
