dearest all,
As of the beginning of June 2011, I am no longer posting to this blog. It will stand as a record of my time in Iceland, sure, but if you want something that is getting updated, head on over to the small blue cat.
best,
eric

ash wednesday

it snowed here, just a little bit.
dearest all,
i have some clay! actually, i have 100 kg [220 lbs] of the stuff. i've been making some smallish preliminary sketches [or maybe, since they are not on paper, they are better called maquettes] of things, and though i haven't come up with anything too good yet, i am certainly hoping to. [naturally.]

rather striking, rather clear.

the real treat is that the sun is shining and there are drifts that are nearly up to my knees in some places. it is great fun. here are some shots from last night:
the mountains change color right along with the cars.
pretty cool for being achromatic
this drift is a pretty good one. up around my shins, anyway.

it appears to be some sort of halloween today- i see spongebob and girls with moustaches and a lot of cowboys running around, door to door [?] in the snow. i can't say that i really know what is going on, but it is pretty funny, anyway. i am curious if it has anything to do with the beginning of lent?
the ceiling is pretty awesome here.
i'll be uploading a moving picture of it soon.

i stop in to the cathedral for a little while, and am struck by the size of it. it feels pretty little. there are maybe 15 rows of pews. i had assumed that it was going to be enormous. maybe that is just an assumption that goes along with 'cathedral.'
this window is up front, in the transept.
while this one is in the back, near the entrance.
notice the lighter colored glass here?
it is a pretty nice effect.
similar in size to queen of peace, though quite a bit taller. i think my favorite feature is the tiled floor. pretty cool.
reminds me a little bit of ty's new series
it is a nice space, though it feels almost cluttered with the various statues and paintings along the walls.
it is very very quiet while i am there. i don't see anyone else. i will be going back soon, and i'll let you know how mass in icelandic is. should be good.

when i leave, i head back home, because it is colder than usual. very crisp.
the sunlight along with the snow can be quite a blinding combination.

soon: some labels from various food items, because they are kinda neat in some cases. and also some pictures of little clay people. [because they are kinda neat in some cases.]
look! here's the studio. i live and work on the top floor.

anything else that you'd like to see, let me know.
ooh! a boaty thing.
[this is from a few days ago- notice the lack of snow?]

  1. The cathedral is great looking. I sure am glad you packed your snow boots and such... (you DID pack your boots didn't you! Heh-heh) I wonder what a picture of your feet would look like after all that drift wading.

    Nice digs.

So glad you have a little clay to mold.

Excited for you and your experiences.
