dearest all,
As of the beginning of June 2011, I am no longer posting to this blog. It will stand as a record of my time in Iceland, sure, but if you want something that is getting updated, head on over to the small blue cat.
best,

preliminary sketches.

dearest all,
i have been making some things- drawing and sculpting, and a little bit of writing, too. a lot of thinking is going on, too, but i have much less to show for that. so it goes.
the ubiquitous cow.
not sure why he's so popular lately.

i have a few ideas that are getting to be rather interesting, and some that are still pretty far off, but hopefully it'll be enough to get some good momentum.

i've spent the last few days making lots and lots of maquettes. sketches, essentially, but maquette makes it sound fancy, and less like a drawing.
this is most of it, i suppose.
i have a few others that are bagged up-
still working on them.

the idea is to make a whole lot of things and then assess which ones are more interesting and why. [that is the idea anyway, but you know how things really go...]
here's one that may go far- we'll see. it needs a layer or two of extra complexity, along with some fun little thing to hide in it, but the basics are here, i think.
not sure if this drawing is particularly clear.
working title for this one is probably:
the fisheaters
these photos are most likely insufficient. i'll keep posting updates as they come. [but for the sake of discussion- the idea is to have a big guy with stilts [familiar?] who is wading about in the sea. there are littler guys riding upon him catching fish. there is even a possibility of a church on the back of said big guy.

another sketch of the fisheaters,
along with other notes of things that may
or may not work.
i am imagining this thing to stand pretty tall- focused around 60 inches. [i hear that is a standard of some sort?] but i need to figure out more of the details before i even pretend to discuss my thinking behind this. it is far too nebulous at this point. an idea that consists of a few words but mostly strings blowing in the wind. some of them are knotted, and most of them are attached to an idea or two.

a maquette of the fisheaters.
no big sticks yet.
[i suppose the big sticks are going to have to be metal.]
i've also been drawing some fish. they are pretty neat. i don't think i've ever really looked at a fish, other than guppies and goldfish, but they hardly count.
some buckets of fish [to be eaten?]
in other news, we are hosting a dinner tomorrow night. attendance may near the thirty person mark. it'll be quite fun, i imagine- i guess i'll have to let you know. [i'll also try to get a rough head count and country count.]

well, that is about all for now.
with warmest regards,
eric

  1. I love the fish in the buckets. They are wonderful, although I must admit I am quite disturbed by the bias against goldfish and guppies in your comments. Are you a fishist? For example: are you sympathetic to a fish out of water? Or maybe you just have bigger fish to fry. Perhaps you were just fishing for something to say, or maybe fishing for a compliment. But, I want you to know I could see through your big fish attitude... you don't have much respect for these limbless, cold-blooded vertebrates, do you. Your comments come as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Yes indeed, something seems a little fishy here.
